THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF is actively making moves to bring Kerala Congress-B leader and MLA K B Ganesh Kumar out of the Left Front. It must be noted that Ganesh has not been happy with the Left Front for some time. Even though Ganesh Kumar is not a huge force, the UDF leadership thinks that the Left will suffer a huge political setback if a constituent party leaves the front before the Lok Sabha elections.

Opposition to Ganesh within the Congress has eased with the demise of Oommen Chandy. Talks about Ganesh moving to the UDF gained more strength after he received the blessings of the NSS. There are indications that some senior Congress leaders have already held talks with Ganesh in this regard. A section of Congress leaders and some UDF party leaders are of the view that the coming of Ganesh will be politically exhausting for the Left.

As per the agreement within the Left Front, Ganesh Kumar has to be given a ministerial post after three months. Ganesh is supposed to replace Transport Minister Antony Raju in the cabinet. However, the Left Front leadership turned a blind eye when the Kerala Congress-B publicly said that it does not want the transport department. Ganesh and his colleagues saw this as the Left Front's lack of interest in the party. Another threat is that Ganesh's sister had approached the Chief Minister against giving Ganesh a ministerial post and on the property dispute. It is because of all these factors that Ganesh has been criticizing various departments of the government inside and outside the Assembly for some time now.
