THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicle Department recommended drone AI cameras to detect violations in addition to the AI cameras. Recommendations are for 10 drone cameras in a district. The total cost of the project is expected to be Rs 400 crore. The recommendation is under the consideration of the government.
MVD proposed the recommendation for the new scheme after it was noticed that motorists obey the law only in areas where cameras are installed and violations increase in areas where cameras are not installed. The transport commissioner recommended for at least ten drone cameras in a district. The system will be arranged in such a way that a camera installed on the drone can catch various violations.
Out of the 726 AI cameras installed under the Safe Kerala scheme, 692 are levying fines. The cameras will operate 24 hours a day. Warning signs are placed in the area where the cameras are located. Penalties are imposed for seven offences.
1) Not wearing helmet (Rs 500)
2) Not wearing seat belt (Rs 500)
3) Mobile phone usage (Rs 2000)
4) Crossing red signal (Rs 1000)
5) Travel of more than two in two-wheelers (Rs 1000)
6) Over speeding (Rs 1500)
