KOCHI: Action has been taken against the nurse for administering anti-rabies shot to the girl who sought treatment for fever at the Angamaly taluk hospital. The temporary nurse behind the act will be removed from the hospital.

Health Minister Veena George had directed the director of health department to investigate and take strict action after noticing the incident. Shortly, the superintendent of Angamaly Taluk Hospital, submitted a report to the district medical officer, mentioning a lapse from the side of the nurse. She was fired soon after the report was submitted.

The report said the child was given rabies shot without even checking the slip and was injected when there was no one near her.

The incident happened Friday morning. The nurse injected the seven-year-old girl from Kothakulangara on her injury when her mother made her sit in the casualty and went to take the OP ticket. The child who is at home has no health issues presently. The child’s parents did not file a complaint even after the Angamaly police reached the hospital and their house. The police have summoned her parents to the station today.

Even though the parents were not ready to file a complaint, the BJP Angamaly Municipal Committee raised an allegation against the hospital. Activists also staged a dharna in front of the hospital.
