KOCHI: Governor Arif Mohammad Khan said that the findings of the Income Tax Interim Settlement Board against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's daughter Veena Vijayan are serious. He clarified that the matter will be investigated. The governor said that the details related to the financial dealings have not yet been received and it is understood that the findings are serious.

He also added that it will be decided later whether to seek an explanation from the Chief Minister regarding the matter. The Governor responded that it is necessary to clearly understand what happened.

The Governor's reaction came in the context of the discovery that Veena had received Rs 1.72 crore from a private company called Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL) every month over three years. The Income Tax department has argued that a total of Rs 1.72 crore was received by Veena and Exalogic during 2017-20, which was an illegal transaction. A settlement board bench comprising Amrapali Das, Rameshwar Singh and M Jagadish Babu had stated that the Income Tax Department was able to establish based on strong evidence that the payment was for services which were not received.
