KALLAMBALAM: The drowning incident of a young man in Mavinmoodu proved to be a murder. Mavinmoodu Valiyakaavu native Sunil(41) was arrested. Kallambalam police informed that he has confessed to the crime.
37-year-old Raju’s body was found floating in a pond in Mavinmoodu yesterday. Friends who shared liquor along with Raju on the previous night were taken into custody by police and interrogated. It was in this questioning session that the truth got unfurled. On August 10th, accused Sunil and three of his friends took Raju to a field adjacent to a pond for booze partying. While pouring liquor into Sunil’s glass, Raju’s hand accidentally hit the glass, which dropped all liquor on the ground. A verbal spat ensued between the two. The talks ended after Raju along with a few decided to leave. Raju meanwhile went to take a dip in the nearby pond. Sunil, still not over the rage hurled abuse at Raju and followed him to the pond.
The two again entered into a fight and Sunil forcibly held down Raju’s head inside the water. It was only after confirming the death that Sunil left the place.
There were several eyewitnesses who saw both Raju and Sunil fighting near the pond. Earlier, Raju’s father turned suspicious as he said his son would never end up drowning in a pond which he was too familiar with. The meticulous work carried out by Kallambalam SHO Vijayaraghavan also proved worthy as the culprit was caught within 24 hours time. Raju leaves behind his wife and three children.
