KANNUR: Policemen who questioned drinking near Athazhakunnu were locked in a club and beaten up. The incident took place when the police team which was on patrol went to check on people suspected of drinking inside the club. The six-member gang got into an argument with the police and attacked them when they questioned their drinking. Meanwhile, another man who was outside closed the door and took the police hostage. The driver of the jeep which was parked outside, broke the lock and let the policemen out.

The injured town SI CH Naseeb and CPO Anees sought treatment at the district hospital. The accused also attacked SI Savyasachi, CPO Sumesh and Sukesh who were in the group. Kannur Town Police arrested K Akhilesh (26), T Abhay (22) and PM Anseer (21) in the incident. Police said further investigation is underway.
