THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The redeployment of 1319 employees of the revenue department to process online applications for land type conversion will be completed this month itself. The subject committee approved the bill to empower Deputy Collectors appointed in 78 taluks to process applications in addition to 27 RDOs. If the Assembly passes it in September, the process will be accelerated. About 500 applications are received daily.
The Commissioner of Land Revenue had issued an order instructing the Land Revenue Commissioner to redeploy 1319 employees, including 197 LD typists, 201 UD typists and 921 re-deployable office attendants to offices with heavy workloads. The process should be completed within one month.
Land type conversion up to 25 cents is free. If there is more land than that, the government used to charge a fee of 10 percent of the fair value of the entire property, including the land in free type conversion. However, the High Court recently ruled that only the land excluding the 25 cents allowed for free type conversion should be charged based on fair value. The government has sought legal advice from the AG to approach the Supreme Court against this.

The pending situation of land-type conversion applications will be fixed within six months. A special plan has been formulated for this purpose.
