NEW DELHI: Intelligence officials have warned about a surprise protest from Manipur activists during India’s independence day celebrations on August 15th. A tight security system has been deployed in certain areas that also includes the Red Fort where the Prime Minister is said to hoist the national flag. Security agencies are anticipating the possibility of protests by Kuki-Meitei factions.

According to reports, various such factions will try to wave their flags, raise placards and raise slogans during PM’s event. With the country presiding over the G20 summit and Delhi being the venue, such protests are feared to picture India in poor light. Security has been beefed up at Delhi Airport, railway metro stations, and major commercial centers. The intelligence is not ruling out terrorist attacks from Pakistan on August 15th.
