After the Puthupally election date and the subsequent announcement of candidates, social media campaigning is in full swing. Both the political fronts are accusing each other. Allegations about the lack of development in the constituency have led to the dissemination of a picture showing former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy crossing a bridge in one go. However, this has caused controversy.
Congress leader Kunj Illampally clarified through social media that the said picture was taken on November 27, 2016. The bridge in question is located on the route from Malarikal to Iramba in the Thiruvarppu Panchayat area. CPM leader Suresh was the local MLA. It's worth noting that the current MLA for that area is Minister V N Vasavan, yet substantial changes have not been evident.
Following the circulation of the image depicting Oommen Chandy's seemingly effortless walk across the single-step bridge, individuals including disaster management expert Murali Thummarukudi mocked the incident. However, upon discovering the truth he retracted his statement and expressed regret.
In response, trolls have also begun targeting Murali Thummarukudi, and he himself shared these instances on Facebook.
Youth Congress State General Secretary Rahul Mangoottathil also addressed the issue. On Facebook, he clarified that the incident was not photoshopped and was indeed an original occurrence. However, he highlighted that the incident did not take place in Puthupally but rather on a 'bridge' in the Thiruvarppu Panchayat of Minister V N Vasavan's Ettumanur constituency.
