DEHRADUN: In Uttarakhand, heavy rains have tragically claimed the lives of 60 people. The government has issued stringent vigilance instructions for six districts. A holiday has been declared in these districts including Dehradun and Nainital following the guidelines from the Meteorological Department. The search for 17 individuals in the hilly areas of Uttarakhand is ongoing due to the persistent rain.

Official data indicates that a red alert has been sounded in Dehradun, Nainital, Tehri, Pauri, Champavath, Udham Singh Nagar and other districts. An orange alert has been issued for Haridwar. Additionally, schools in Dehradun and Champavath are closed today. Residents of the region have reported disruptions in traffic including national highways due to the heavy rainfall.

Landslides have led to the blockade of traffic, including large vehicles on the national highways of Rishikesh, Devprayag and Srinagar. According to the latest figures from the State Emergency Operation Center, the death toll due to heavy rains stands at 60, with 37 individuals injured and 17 still missing. As a result of the calamity, 1,196 houses have been destroyed and farmlands have suffered damage.

Solan: In Himachal Pradesh, heavy rain and cloudburst incidents have resulted in seven fatalities. The search for three individuals is still ongoing. Due to heavy rains, roads in Shimla and Chandigarh have been closed. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh of Himachal Pradesh paid his respects.

Two houses collapsed and a cow shed was destroyed in the cloudburst. As a consequence of the continuous downpour, Himachal Pradesh University has postponed its scheduled exams. Schools and colleges have been granted holidays.
