PALAKKAD: CBI has applied for a lie detector test of the accused in the Walayar minor sisters' rape-death case. The CBI investigation team filed the application in the Palakkad POCSO court.

CBI has requested permission from the court to conduct a lie detection test on the accused V Madhu, M Madhu, Shibu and a minor. CBI also requested the court that the mobile phones of the accused be sent for scientific testing. The court has adjourned this request for further hearing.

The 13-year-old girl was found hanging dead at her home in Walayar Attappallam on January 7, 2017. Two months later, on March 4, 2017, her nine-year-old younger sister was also found hanging in the same house. On March 6, 2017, a special investigation team was formed under the leadership of Palakkad ASP G Poonguzhali.

On March 12, 2017, the post-mortem report came out stating that the dead children were victims of sexual abuse, but on June 22, 2019, the police submitted a charge sheet stating that the death of the sisters was from suicide. On November 19, 2019, the girl's mother approached the high court. Then on March 10, 2022, the Hanifa Commission found that the police and the prosecution had failed. Later, the High Court overturned the trial court's verdict acquitting the accused and handed over the case to the CBI.
