THRISSUR: Lakshmi Ammal is bereaved at the loss of her partner Kochaniyan (82), who died in Thrissur medical college on Sunday due to pneumonia.
It was exactly three years ago that the fairy tale rendezvous took place in the government's old age home in Ramavarmapuram. Lakshmi Ammal then aged 67 choose Kochaniyan as her partner for life. Both were housed in the old age home and slowly, a special bond happened between them that turned the duo inseparable.
It was with the blessings of former minister VS Sunilkumar and former Thrissur Mayor Ajitha that the marriage between Ammal and Kochaniyan happened.
Kochaniyan was admitted to Thrissur Medical College Hospital just three days ago, after suffering from physical ailments due to paralysis. Minding Kochaniyan’s deteriorating health, Lakshmi Ammal was brought to the hospital to see her partner. However, Ammal was forced to return after experiencing health ailments. Kochanian’s final rites were done at Laloor Corporation crematorium.
After the death of her husband 25 years ago, Lakshmi Ammal came to the old age home in 2018. In 2019, Kochaniyan entered the old age home after seeing the death of his wife. Lakshmi already knew Kochaniyan as her late husband’s friend. He worked as her late husband Krisha Iyer's assistant in the catering business in Thrissur.
The marriage was on 28 December 2019. This was the first marriage in the state to be held in an old age home.
