THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a statement, the CPM state secretariat said that the central government's move to control public libraries in the country is part of the implementation of the Hindutva agenda. This is part of the conspiracy to bring the libraries under the control of the central government and fill them with books of Sangh Parivar publishing houses.
The announcement to regulate libraries came at the Festival of Libraries organized by the Union Ministry of Culture. The move is to bring state-controlled libraries into the concurrent list under the 7th Schedule of the Constitution. Efforts to promote communalism by restricting democratically elected and autonomous libraries must be strongly opposed.
Such measures are a continuation of the central policy of undermining the federal system. Central government had formed the Ministry of Cooperation which is under the cooperative sector of the state list. There was a strong protest against the policy of introducing agricultural laws, because the agricultural sector was in the state list. The CPM secretariat said in a statement that there should be a strong protest against the central policy of imposing their interests by eliminating even the country's federal systems.
