CHENNAI: Following the student committing suicide after failing NEET for the second time, the father also took his own life. With this, Chief Minister Stalin came with extreme criticism against Governor RN Ravi who did not sign the anti-NEET bill passed by the assembly two years ago. Stalin remarked that the governor has a heart made of stone and would not melt no matter how many lives were lost.

S Jagadeeswaran (19), a native of Chromapet, Chennai, committed suicide on Saturday, and his father Selvakumar (48) was found hanging dead at home yesterday. He was a photographer.

Jagadeeswaran, who scored 85 per cent marks in class 12th, failed to clear the NEET twice. Jagadeeswaran was admitted to a NEET training centre in Annanagar, Chennai to prepare for the exam again. Jagadeeswaran, who was under severe stress, hanged himself from the fan on Saturday when no one was at home. Selvakumar, who could not contact his son on the phone, came to know about the incident when he told his neighbours to go and check. Selvakumar was dead by the time he was taken to the hospital.

Since 2017, around twenty five students have committed suicide in Tamil Nadu due to their inability to clear NEET. Before the advent of NEET, MBBS admission was based on plus two marks.

Meanwhile, Stalin announced that his government would boycott the Governor's Tea Party on Independence Day.

Anti-NEET Bill

Government position

Children from poor families who score well in plus two fail in NEET. Meanwhile, children of the rich spend lakhs and go to coaching centres and pass. To reverse this situation medical admission should be restored on the basis of plus two marks.

Those who did not clear NEET should not be discouraged. Face life with confidence. There will be a political change in the country within months. NEET will also disappear with that.
