NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi had mentioned the importance of regional languages in the country during his Independence Day message. In his speech at the Red Fort, Modi had also stated that the glory of mother tongues is growing in the country. However, these words of the Prime Minister brought so much happiness to someone else. Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud of the Supreme Court, the highest court of the country, was the one who was happy hearing it.
‘I want to thank the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court recently said that all court judgments should be in local languages too. Hearing these words of Modi, the Chief Justice who was among the guests at the event, acknowledged the Prime Minister with folded hands and the others cheered.
Justice Chandrachud had often demanded that court judgments be translated into local languages. It was announced in last January that it should be translated into Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati and Odiya languages.
