GUWAHATI: Police have arrested an Imam (Muslim religious scholar) for allegedly murdering a 12-year-old madrasa student. The student was found dead with his throat slit at Darus Salam Hafizia and Alia Madrassa in Hawaithang in Cachar district, Assam. The accused was arrested soon after the incident.
Police said that the student was found dead by his roommates when they tried to wake him up for Namaz. The body has been shifted to the hospital for post-mortem. The district administration has sealed the madrasa as part of the investigation. Cachar police superintendent said that the incident might have occurred between 3 am and 4 am.
The superintendent also said that Imam Mukkil Rahman Khan has been arrested. The Imam has not confessed to the crime. Meanwhile, eyewitnesses told the police that the child was murdered by the Imam in the dormitory. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 302 of the IPC. The accused would be produced before the court after questioning.
