ALAPPUZHA: Two years after the foundation stone was laid for the 493.06 crore Mobility Hub project, which will connect the transport systems of Alappuzha, not even the paperwork has been completed. The approval of the Municipal Corporation for the layout of the structures will be obtained only after receiving a favourable report from the canal heritage committee.

The report was not approved by the Art and Heritage Committee despite the submission of the Inkel on construction. In a meeting held last month, KSRTC gave verbal approval for the layout of the terminal. Only after the minutes are prepared and official approval is obtained, Inkel can proceed further. Rs 129 crore for the KSRTC terminal has been sanctioned. But construction on the converted garage has gone nowhere after two years.

Snake boat model bus stand

The KSRTC stand will be demolished and the terminal will be built on the model of a Snake boat, some changes including reducing the height of the pillar had been suggested by the Heritage Committee. Another recommendation of the Heritage Commission is to lay tiles on the building.

Similar to the Kochi water metro

The project is similar to the Kochi water metro. Water transport and road transport will be integrated. Along with four acres of KSRTC land, the site for irrigation and water transport will also be part of the project.

The project will also include a multiplex complex, petrol-diesel pump, multi-level car parking, hotel, supermarket, workshop, boat terminal, boat repair dockyard, district transport office, water transport department office, bus bay, and garage.

`Heritage Committee has approved the plan but the minutes have not been received. The plan needs to be updated and submitted to the municipality. The estimate should be updated and the tender submitted after obtaining approval from KIIFB. It will be delayed further.”
