KOCHI: Police officers who behaved rudely with women visiting the waterfall are now in custody. The incident occurred at Piravam Areekkal falls. The complaint states that two officers from the Muvattupuzha police station assaulted the women who had gone down to the waterfall.
The Ramamangalam police arrived at the scene and apprehended the officers. However, there are allegations that the police are delaying the subsequent procedures including medical examinations despite the officers being in custody for hours.
Simultaneously, policemen who were questioning individuals drinking near the Kannur dinner spot yesterday were confronted and assaulted in a club. The police team, while patrolling became suspicious upon noticing alcohol consumption in the club and were subsequently attacked. When inquired about their drinking, a group of six individuals entered into a conflict with the police and assaulted them. One of the youths locked the door, effectively taking the police officers hostage. The driver who was in the nearby jeep broke the lock to free the policemen.
Injured Sub-Inspector C H Naseeb and Assistant Sub-Inspector Anees sought treatment at the district hospital. Sub-Inspector Savyasachi as well as Assistant Sub-Inspectors Sumesh and Sukesh were also attacked by the perpetrators. K Akhilesh (26), T Abhay (22) and P M Anseer (21), were arrested by the Kannur Town Police. The police have stated that the investigation is ongoing.
