THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Supplyco orders goods worth Rs 596.80 crore for the Onan market. A retender was also called for dried red chillies. The price of chili which was Rs 350 is now Rs 260. The retender has considered this. 1000 kg of chilli has been secured in the first phase. The stock of broad beans and peas will also arrive soon. All the rest went to the outlets.
Supplyco is trying to deliver subsidized goods to Thiruvananthapuram on the 18th when the state-level inauguration of Onam markets will take place. The stock will be delivered to other districts in the next few days. The government has allocated Rs 70 crore for market intervention. Today's cabinet meeting will allocate more money. Onam markets will also be organized in assembly constituencies.
Minister G R Anil said that the arrears will be settled as soon as the onam trade is over. According to the minister's assurance, the suppliers deliver the goods. Orders were taken by 1402 distributors. Jaya rice is supplied by private distributors in Andhra. There was a proposal to do a local purchase but the minister did not allow it. This is due to the possibility of corruption allegations.
Supplyco is also trying to find sponsors for the auction. Some food manufacturing companies have promised to sponsor district-level fairs and prepare Onam fairs with sales strategies and interior amenities similar to those of supermarkets. There will also be stalls of Milma, Kerafed and Kudumbashree. Vegetables procured from local farmers will also be available.
