KOLLAM: Government hospitals will soon get oxygen in gaseous form at low cost from Chavara KMML which is a PSU. At present, a 7 m cube oxygen cylinder is filled for Rs.400, KML plans to fill it for Rs.300.
70 tons of liquid oxygen is produced per day to be used as a raw material for extracting titanium dioxide from Ilmanate. Of this, only 63 tonnes are used and the remaining oxygen is sold in gas form.
The outward supply of oxygen started in the second wave of covid, when the shortage of oxygen in the hospitals was severe. At that time, liquid oxygen was delivered to hospitals in tankers. Oxygen in gaseous form can be stored in cylinders for long periods of time.
