KANPUR: The police have arrested a three-member gang from West Bengal in connection with a case of extorting money from a 72-year-old man. The police stated that they coerced the man into giving them money by promising a magic mirror that could supposedly reveal people's nakedness.

Avinash Kumar Shukla, a resident of Kanpur was the victim of this fraud. The gang managed to extract nine lakh rupees from him with the false promise of providing the magic mirror. According to Avinash Kumar, he was introduced to the culprits through his friend, Virendra Dubey.

The arrested individuals are Sudeepta Singhre from Kolkata, Partha Singhre from Santragachi and Molaya Sarkar from North 24 Parganas. The accused convinced Avinash that they could offer him the magic mirror for a price of two crores. They gained the complainant's trust by posing as company representatives specializing in selling antiques.

Avinash travelled to Bhubaneswar as per the accused's instructions, carrying the money to purchase the supposed magic mirror. However, he realized that he had fallen victim to a scam after handing over nine lakhs at the hotel. Subsequently, he filed a complaint with the police leading to the arrest of the three-member group after a thorough investigation.
