CHENNAI: A 25-year-old youth died after his neck, hands and feet were tied to the berth of the train’s general compartment. The dead is Prakash of Chattisgarh. He was married and has a child. He was found dead when the train reached Chennai Central Railway Station. The incident happened when he was travelling with his relatives Ramkumar (35) and a 15-year-old boy in Kochuveli-Gorakhpur Rapti Sagar Express. He was being taken home from Erode.
Prakash and his relatives had come to Erode on August 15 with his relatives to work in a stone quarry. The contractor, who hired them, asked his relatives to take him back home after found him mentally unfit. They informed his mother that they are returning and boarded the train in the evening.
In the meanwhile, some of the passengers complained to his relatives after he was found moving around. Following that, his relatives tied his hands and feet. When he started screaming, they tied his neck and pushed him under the seat.
Police said Prakash may have struggled to free himself, leading to his strangulation. Ramkumar has been sent to jail and the boy to a juvenile home.
