VARKALA: A temple priest has been arrested under the POCSO Act for sexually abusing a minor girl. The arrested person is Chirayinkeezhu native Baiju, who is a priest at Mundayil Temple in Varkala.

The incident took place on August 11. The police had taken Baiju into custody last night. The girl told the police that the accused grabbed her hand when she reached the temple. He then took her to the Nivedyapura and sexually abused her. The incident came to light after the girl told her teacher about the sexual abuse. Following this, the teacher informed the matter to Child Line. Baiju, who was presented in court, has been remanded.
