BENGALURU: As per reports, some BJP MLAs may defect to Congress and the situation is currently shaping up in favour of Congress. It is reported this would be likely a 'homecoming' for former Congress leaders who joined the BJP in the past.
As part of Operation Lotus, the BJP was to break up the Congress-led government in 2018. The BJP government came to power under the leadership of BS Yeddyurappa after 17 MLAs of the ruling party resigned. It is reported that prominent people including ST Somashekhar, who came to the BJP in 2018, have expressed their willingness to return. If so, it will be a heavy blow to the BJP after the impact of the election defeat in Karnataka.
Former Congress MLAs Shivaram Hebber, Bairati Basavaraju and JDS leader K Gopalaya, who joined the BJP along with Somasekhar, are also likely to return.
Meanwhile, the current BJP MLA ST Somasekar had praised DK Shivakumar the other day. After sharing the stage with DK Shivakumar at a public event, Somashekhar described Shivakumar as his political guru. After that, there were rumours that Somashekhar would return to his old camp.
