LUCKNOW: Ajay Rai, the newly appointed congress president in Uttar Pradesh sounded rather assured when he predicted Priyanka Gandhi to win from any constituency in Uttar Pradesh if contested in the next Lok Sabha elections. Ajay Rai who unsuccessfully contested against Narendra Modi during the last two Lok Sabha elections was made the Congress state president on Thursday. Rai after assuming responsibility kicked up intrigue with a set of election hints. He also talked about Rahul Gandhi contesting from former congress bastion Amethi but vaguely mentioned Priyanka Gandhi challenging Narendra Modi from Varanasi. According to Rai, Priyanka will topple the mighty Modi from Varanasi if she decides to contest in 2024.

The 'breaking' announcement from the newly designated congress president was treated with amazement by media factions. Sensing the spotlight the news garnered, AICC corrected Rai’s statement and cleared the air saying no such list was prepared for candidates in Uttar Pradesh.

It is also noteworthy that AICC did not completely deny Ajay Rai's announcement. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi contested from Amethi but lost to Union Minister Smriti Irani.
