THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kodikunnil Suresh MP said that railways have sanctioned two new trains to Kerala to solve the travel problem during Onam. Ernakulam-Velankanni train and Kollam-Tirupati train will be running for two days a week from now.
Palaruvi Express has been extended from Tirunelveli to Tuticorin. Garib Rath Express and Hazrat Nizamuddin have been allotted a stop at Changanassery. Malabar Express has been allotted an additional stop at Pattambi and Sampark Kranti at Tirur. Southern Railway will decide when the trains will start their regular run.
Meanwhile, the Panvel-Nagercoil special train allocated for Onam will run its first service on the 22nd of this month. The first service is from Nagercoil to Panvel. The train will reach Nagercoil from Panvel on 24th. A total of three services will be operated to and from Kerala till September 7. KV Thomas had written to the Union Railway Minister on behalf of the government to run a special service to Kerala, after which the special train was sanctioned.
