KOZHIKODE: The police have decided to charge a case against two doctors and two nurses, who were present during Harsheena's C-section surgery. According to assistant commissioner K Sudharshan, the decision to charge the medical staff including doctors happened only after obtaining clear evidence of negligence from the doctors that resulted in the forceps getting stuck in Harsheena’s stomach for years. Since the defendants are government officials, government permission is required to file a charge sheet against them. The police have thus approached the health ministry to fast-track procedures.
Meanwhile, medical college AC K Sudharshan is adamant in approaching court against the medical board’s reluctance to accept the police finding that the forceps found inside Harsheena’s stomach belonged to Kozhikode medical college.
“I am strongly supporting the police report. The medical board published a new report with two dissenting opinions including mine. I have decided to approach court against the medical board’s stance” Sudharshan said.
Amidst this, the health ministry is attempting to end the case by offering far greater compensation to Harsheena. The government has hitherto received flak for letting the case snowball into a major issue in the state that highlighted the pertaining flaws in the health sector.
