NEW DELHI: The Karkardooma trial court which strongly criticized the police's investigation in the case related to the 2020 Delhi riots acquitted three people. Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala made grave remarks including the assertion that the charge sheet had been prepared as predetermined by the investigating officer. The case was sent to the Delhi Police itself to scrutinize the investigation. The court censured the incident of rioting and arson in the Victoria Public School area of North-East Delhi. Two groups were present in the area. The court noted that the investigating officer remained silent on which group had committed the violence. It was also highlighted that the complainants provided contradictory statements. Consequently, the accused people—Aqeel Ahmed, Rahis Khan and Irshad—were acquitted.

Bail application of Umar Khalid
The Supreme Court postponed the bail plea filed by former JNU leader and activist Umar Khalid in the UAPA case related to the Delhi riots for two weeks. A bench comprising Justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi stated that the matter requires a comprehensive hearing. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra had recused himself earlier and the new bench was listing the bail application yesterday. Umar Khalid has been in jail since September 2020 in connection with the case. The student leader approached the Supreme Court after the Additional Sessions Court in Delhi and the Delhi High Court rejected his bail plea. The prosecution alleged that Umar Khalid and some organizations had conspired and planned the Delhi riots.
