KOCHI: A man committed suicide after attacking his niece with a knife. The incident happened at 11:30 am in Ilanji, Koothattukulam on Saturday. The girl suffered a head injury and is undergoing treatment at the Kottayam Medical College. The assailant hanged himself in the rubber plantation near the house.

The girl had earlier raised a complaint against her paternal uncle in 2021, and the hearing of the case was about to begin when the heinous incident took place today.

The girl's father is a security guard. The attack happened when the mother was attending a funeral while the younger daughter was at school. The girl hails from a financially struggling family and it was the locals and neighbors who collected sufficient money to help build a house for the family.
