CHENNAI: An ex-serviceman, a lawyer and a press owner were arrested for printing and using fake notes of five hundred rupees. The incident took place in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The scam came to light when Annamalai (65), an ex-serviceman and a resident of Chennai's Balaji Nagar, gave fake notes at a vegetable shop in Nungambakkam. Suspicious about the note, the vegetable shop owner informed the police. Annamalai was arrested by the Nungambakkam police on Thursday evening. Police said that he had served in the army for ten years and was being dismissed.

During the interrogation, he testified that the notes were being printed under the guidance of his friend and lawyer V Subramanian (62). Then the police found 90 bundles of notes worth Rs 45.2 lakh in a raid on a press in Virugambakkam. Press owner Karthikeyan was also arrested. They spent about 5 lakh rupees in this way. It is reported that they have printed fake notes worth Rs 50 lakh. Printing machines and paper-cutting machines were seized. They were scamming by giving fake notes in small shops and flower shops. The accused were remanded.
