ALAPPUZHA: The Mararikulam police have not yet registered a case in the incident where a police officer, who came to investigate a complaint, was verbally abused and threatened over the phone by CPM Kanjikuzhy local committee secretary. CPM local secretary Hebindas verbally abused Shine, an officer of the narcotics cell, after the officer sought information about the young men and women who reached a deserted field in the region. The audio recording of the incident that happened a month ago surfaced the other day.

The narcotics department reached the spot as instructed by the district police chief following a complaint that youths and girls regularly come in groups to the deserted paddock east of the Kanjikuzhy block junction. Youths, including the local committee secretary's relative, and five girls were there on the spot. The police sent them away after inquiring their details.

However, the relative of the local committee secretary and other youths came back and started an argument with the police. Following the misbehaviour, the narcotics department informed the Mararikulam police. A team led by SI arrived at the spot and forced the group to disperse after charging a young man for not wearing a helmet.

Later, the CPM local committee secretary called Shine in the narcotic cell over the phone and asked him to exempt the young relative from the case. He became angry and threatened the officer after the officer refused to obey his demand.
