lorikeet-

KOCHI: Time is no problem for Dasan from Christo Vegetables on Kathrikadavu Road, Tammanam. He is always active. Dasan is a favourite among vegetable buyers. Before they ask 'Where is our Dasan', he will sneak out from among the vegetables and munch on the beans.

The parrot, named Dasan, was brought by shopkeeper Tarsi George six months ago. This handsome guy belongs to the rainbow lorikeet species found in Australia.

Dasan is not raised in a cage. His regular seat is on top of the vegetables and he spends the night in the shop itself. When Naseer, the shopkeeper, shouts 'Dasa' he will fly in and give him kisses on the cheek and the lip. There are other parrots in Tarsi George's house, but none of them are as smart as Dasan.

Many people stop their vehicles and take pictures out of curiosity after seeing Dasan munching on beans and there are one's who even yell that a parrot is picking on the beans.

Price up to 90,000 rupees

A pair of rainbow lorikeets can cost up to INR 90,000 in India. Shop owner Tarsi George brought the baby parrot that was hatched from the pair she bought to be raised at home. Naseer, the employee of the shop, is the one who named him Dasan.

'Since he was brought, Dasan has been tended to without a cage. The call 'Dasaaa' has become a hit.'
