VARKALA: Former President Ram Nath Kovind stated that Sree Narayana Gurudeva was a guiding light of India's renaissance, envisioning a non-discriminatory India. Kovind inaugurated the year-long centenary celebration of Varkala Narayana Gurukulam at the Brahmavidya Mandiram Hall.
In ancient times, India was a land of sages, philosophers and spiritual realizations. It bore witness to luminaries like Gautama Buddha and Mahavira, who stood against communal oppression and tyranny. It was a land of immense cultural, linguistic and customary diversity. This diversity found expression even in the realms of philosophy and spirituality. Sree Narayana Gurudeva extensively promoted the Advaita Siddhanta. His views on education were cited when he presided over the 2021 graduation ceremony at the Central University of Kerala. The Guru had emphasized that education leads to the upliftment and empowerment of both students and society.
Gurudeva has left us a legacy of enduring social reforms. His life and works were dedicated to uplifting the oppressed. Their impact is still strongly felt in Kerala. Gurudeva's struggles against caste and gender discrimination as well as untouchability continue to inspire the current generation. The Vaikkam Satyagraha marked a pivotal moment in his unrelenting fight against discrimination eventually leading to temple entry. The Guru's proclamation of ‘one caste, one religion, one God’ reflects his vision of human unity. Even a century later, Narayana Gurukulam stands as a testament to the transformative power of education nurtured by Gurudev Arul.
Governor Arif Muhammad Khan graced the occasion as the chief guest. Narayana Gurukulam Guru Muninarayana Prasad delivered the opening speech and Swami Satchidananda, President of Sivagiri Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust, conveyed the concluding remarks. Adoor Prakash, Member of Parliament, and V Joy, MLA also addressed the gathering. Dr PK Sabu, Chairman of the Centenary Celebration Committee extended the welcome address.
