THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BEVCO Chairman's circular to sell cheap liquor brands and stocks on Onam after chemical testing. Brands that are in stock even after six months from the date of manufacture are the ones that will be getting checked. It is also advised not to sell unusable brands. In-demand brands should be displayed in stores if they are in stock. The District Audit Team shall ensure that all retail outlets have sufficient stock of liquor till the 30th. Irregularities should be reported to the head office.

It is also suggested to ensure the availability of Jawan Rum, a government product. Over 2000 cases of Jawan are in stock in all 26 warehouse godowns. Travancore Sugars And Chemicals Thiruvalla owned by Government increased their daily production from 8,000 cases to 12,000 cases. If permission is given to increase the spirit storage capacity from 20 lakh liters to 35 lakh, the production will be 15,000 cases.

Warehouse construction has also begun along with the increase in production. Police Housing Construction Corporation is responsible for the construction. There is a stocking capacity of 30,000 cases. One lakh plastic bottles per day are required to fill liquor but there is a facility to store only eight lakh bottles. The new godown has a solution for all this. There are 13 private distilleries that produce Indian-made foreign liquor in the state. There is no shortage of spirit (ENA) due to low prices as it went down from Rs 73 to Rs 67.90 per litre.
