ALAPPUZHA: Police are carrying out a detailed search for one policeman who attacked an excise team near Kanjipadam. According to the attacked Excise CI, the last night attack at Kanjipadam was led by a police officer. He also complained to the Ambalappuzha police to take necessary action for the crime. After registering a case in the incident, the police are searching for the accused.

The incident happened around 10 pm on Friday. After receiving several complaints of public nuisance near Kanjipadam bridge at night, the Excise team came in mufti to arrest the troublemakers. However, the officers were in for a surprise after knowing that the real troublemakers were a team led by Alappuzha South police constable Abin(35). The gang later attacked the excise team and fled the spot. It is reported that Abin is a part of the police rowing team and is a strong presence in boat race competitions. Excise CI K R Krishnakumar, H Nasser, and G R Ranadeeve got injured badly in the attack.

The group led by Abin was seated near the slab of the bridge and was having alcohol. Abin easily identified the officers in Mufti and took a stone to slam it on the excise member's face. The assailants then snatched Ranadeeve's ID card forcibly and slammed a stone on his face, leaving him with a broken nose.
