THRISSUR: Enforcement Directorate is investigating the former minister A C Moytheen in the Karuvannur bank fraud case. The ED alleges that Moytheen is linked to crores of benami loans. The investigative team also claims that many benami loans were granted to non-members of the bank based on the instructions of A C Moytheen.

The ED has reported that bank accounts belonging to Moytheen and his wife totalling Rs 28 lakh have been frozen. Moreover, land owned by economically disadvantaged individuals has been mortgaged without their consent. In a press release, the ED stated that the investigation against A C Moytheen and others involved in the case is ongoing.

Numerous individuals were provided substantial loans without proper documentation. As a consequence of the bank's financial collapse, investors found themselves in distressing situations. The ED also noted that some individuals resorted to suicide as a result.

Recently, raids were conducted on the residences of six individuals including A C Moytheen. Properties valued at 15 crores across 36 locations have been seized. Earlier, assets worth Rs 30 crores belonging to A K Bijoy were confiscated.
