NEW DELHI: The membership of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has been suspended by the United World Wrestling (UWW) Association. The action was taken on the grounds that elections were not held in time in the Federation.

Elections in WFI were supposed to be held earlier this year. However, the election was delayed due to sexual assault allegations against Federation President Brij Bhushan Singh, protests by wrestlers and subsequent strikes. The UWW had earlier warned that the membership of the federation could be revoked if the elections were not held.

With the federation's membership suspended, the players will not be able to compete under the Indian flag in the upcoming World Championships. Indian athletes can only participate as independent athletes in the World Championship, which is also a qualifying event for the Olympics.
