KOCHI: Contempt of court case filed against Idukki district party secretary in connection with the construction of CPM office at Santhanpara. High Court has voluntarily registered a case against CV Varghese. High Court asked how the construction work was carried out in violation of the order. The division bench also ordered that the building should not be used till further order.
The lawyer told the court that the building had been completed. However, the counter-question of the court was how the construction continued in violation of the court order. "Can political parties do as they wish? Wasn't a stop memo given in Bison Valley? Therefore, they cannot pretend to ignore the court order' the court said. The court also directed that the building at Shantanpara should not be used for any other purpose until an order is issued.
The revenue department had issued a stop memo to the construction works citing violation of the rules. The High Court had directed the District Collector not to carry out the construction work and strictly implement the stop memo, but construction of the party office continued despite the High Court's order. Following this, the High Court sought a report from the District Collector on what steps had been taken.
