KOCHI: High Court criticized Shajan Skaria, the editor of 'Marunadan Malayali', for not complying with the order to appear for questioning. Justice K Babu said that Shajan's approach is an action of disrespect for the law.

High Court had earlier granted interim bail to Shajan in a case registered by the Nilambur police for broadcasting a video promoting religious rivalry. The order was to appear before the investigating officer on August 17 and to release him on bail if he is arrested after questioning. However, Shajan filed an application in the High Court Registry on August 16 seeking an extension of time to appear as his 85-year-old mother was unwell. The single bench stated that the court was not informed about this. The medical certificate says that the mother needs five days of medical care. As Shajan has siblings, the high court blamed this action as a lack of respect for the law. Director General of Prosecutions TA Shaji, appearing for the prosecution, said that the investigation has stalled as Shajan did not appear for questioning. The petition was adjourned to today to consider issues including whether to modify the interim bail order.
