THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Decorative lights are ready to brighten up the Onam week celebrations in the capital. Tomorrow Minister PA Mohammed Riyas will perform the switch-on ceremony of the decorative lights that will illuminate Kanakakkunnu, the epicentre of Onam celebrations, and the entire city. Minister V Sivankutty will preside over the function.
Ministers Antony Raju and GR Anil will be the chief guests at the function to be held at Kanakakkunnu Palace premises on Saturday at 6:30 pm. With this, the city streets from Kowdiar to Manacaud and Sastamangalam will be illuminated with lights for the next week.
Also, 8,000 artists are lined up at 31 venues from August 27 to September 2 to fill the hearts of those who come to the city to celebrate Onam. From Kerala's unique folk arts to mega-fusion music, various events will be staged. Kanakakunnu, Nishagandhi, Central Stadium, Thycaud Police Ground, Poojappura Ground and Kariavattom Greenfield Stadium will be the main venues for performing arts.
