WASHINGTON: Former US President Donald Trump surrendered at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta on charges of conspiring to sabotage the 2020 Georgia state election. After spending 20 minutes in jail, after the arrest, Trump was released on a $200,000 bail. As part of the procedure, the authorities took a picture (mugshot) of Trump similar to the criminal case defendants. Information, including fingerprints, was collected. This is the first time that a former US president has been photographed in this way. The picture of Trump released by the authorities went viral. Apart from Trump, 18 other accused in the case had surrendered at the prison. Trump has been charged with 13 crimes.
This marks Trump's fourth criminal arrest. Trump has already surrendered to the court in the case of keeping secret documents even after leaving the White House, the case of paying porn star Stormy Daniels through a lawyer to avoid revealing an illicit relationship, and the case of trying to sabotage the defeat in the 2020 presidential election.
At the same time, Trump posted a picture of himself taken by the police after returning from prison on X (Twitter) with the caption 'Never Surrender'. Trump, who is vying for the Republican Party's nomination in next year's presidential election, has used the new picture as a weapon. This is Trump's first appearance on X since January 2021.
