NEW DELHI: Going one step ahead of the BCCI official announcement of the World Cup team, former BCCI chief and Indian cricket legend Sourav Ganguly has picked his side for crickets most enthralling tournament, the World Cup.

Sourav Ganguly announced the 15-member squad after BCCI Selection Committee President Ajit Agarkar hinted that the 17-member squad for the Asia Cup may be retained for the World Cup. Asia Cup will commence on August 30th, while the World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 5th.

Rohit Sharma (captain), Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Mohammad Shami and Shardul Thakur are included in the Indian team selected by Ganguly for the World Cup.

Three players, including Yuzvendra Chahal, have been selected as backup players. However, there are some shocking omissions from Ganguly’s World Cup team. One is veteran spinner R Ashwin while the other is the usual 'snubbed superstar' from Kerala, Sanju Samson.

The deadline for submission of World Cup team information is September 5. The final list is due on September 27.
