THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In one corrective move, the punishment transfer of police officials from Pettah station was canceled after witnessing big protest from the police force. The transfer of two SI and one driver has been canceled after a high-level departmental inquiry found no strong reason to go for punitive steps.
According to the case, Vanchiyur DYFI Block Secretary M Nitish was stopped by police officers during the vehicle inspection at Pulayanarkotta. A fine was also levied for not following proper traffic rules. Meanwhile, Nitish used this time to reveal his political clout as he informed the police officer about his DYFI lineage. However, according to DYFI leaders, the police officers responded with expletives. The DYFI workers in retaliation reached Pettah police station to question the atrocity. However, they alleged getting beaten up by some police officers.
Later, more DYFI workers and CPM leaders organized and reached the station. DYFI workers were pushed by some police officers which erupted into another melee. It is reported that the leaders filed a complaint against the police action. CPM District Secretary V Joy also reached the station and took part in the protest. After that, the DCP also reached the station as per the demand of the leaders. While the discussions were ongoing inside, the workers again tried to barge inside the station.
The sudden punishment transfer of policemen in Pettah irked many officers in service as talks emanated about the police force completely succumbing in front of left political masters. Minding this, the department conducted an inquiry into the matter and revoked the decision. The earlier suspended police officers including the driver will be appointed again in Pettah station.
