KOTTAYAM: On the 40th day after the death of Oommen Chandy, the UDF avoided publicity campaigns and carried out a silent campaign with devotional ceremonies.
Both LDF and NDA were campaigning on central and state development issues. Many people came to Oommen Chandy's grave at Puthupally St. George's Orthodox Church from early morning. Candidate Chandy Oommen and his family members participated in morning prayers and mass at the church and at home. Jacob Mar Iranios offered Holy Communion. Fifty thousand appams and curry were prepared for breakfast. Congress workers conducted Smriti Yatra and interfaith prayers in eight panchayats of the constituency.
Election heats up
Left candidate Jake C Thomas toured Meenadam and Vakathanam panchayats yesterday. Development message meetings attended by ministers were also held. LDF is campaigning on the UDF-BJP alliance raised by the Chief Minister. BJP leaders also alleged that UDF and LDF are colluding to settle the cases against their leaders. The opposition also accused the Chief Minister of running away without touching on controversial issues. The Aam Aadmi Party also started a vehicle campaign in eight panchayats.
