THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The security has been beefed up in the capital Thiruvananthapuram minding the incoming Onam celebrations, informed City Police Commissioner C H Nagaraju. 1500 police will be deployed at venues and public places where celebrations are held.

The city police commissioner has assigned two deputy commissioners to monitor the proceedings in the capital city. DCP Nitin Raj is the security coordinator. Strict traffic regulations have been imposed in the capital and the residents will be forced to conform with the police for the coming few days.

Specific venues have been selected for parking for the coming festive season. This includes University, University College Ground, Sanskrit College, Vazhuthacaud Women's College, Poojappura LBS Ground, St Joseph's School Ground, Fort High School Ground, Salvation Army School Ground, Pettah Boys and Girls School Ground, Chalai Boys and Girls School Ground, Parking facilities have been provided at Jimmy George Indoor Stadium, Attakulangara School, SMV School Ground, Arts College Ground, Kuravankonam St. Anthony's School and Barton hill College.

The commissioner also warned strict actions against people doing drunken driving and speeding during the rush hours. Additional police under the leadership of Traffic South and North ACPs have been deputed for traffic control and vehicle inspection.

As part of security deployment, the capital city has been divided into 9 zones, 22 divisions, and 71 sectors.

A special control room has been set up at Kanakakunnu Palace, a hotspot for Onam celebrations in the capital. In addition to the existing cameras, 107 additional cameras have been installed. There will be police surveillance at all the celebration venues including Central Stadium and Poojappura Ground. Shadow police will also be appointed.
