KOTTAYAM: Today, when Malayalees all over the state are in the rush of Uthradam, Puthuppally is boiling over with accusations, counter-accusations and cyber fights. All three fronts are busy meeting the voters in the constituency that will go to the polling booth on the eighth day after today. After reaching the campaign stage, candidates Chandi Oommen, Jaick C Thomas and Lijin Lal are like a well-oiled machine. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan started a new debate by raising the development achievements of the LDF government and political allegations that the UDF and BJP are in alliance.
On the other hand, AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal retorted that all the developments were started by UDF and it was Rahul Gandhi who went all over India to defend against BJP. Meanwhile, the case against Sathiamma, who was a temporary sweeper at the veterinary hospital, and the cyber abuse against Achu Oommen came to the notice of UDF. The issue was raised as much as possible to capture the minds of women voters. Meanwhile, State Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Kaul wrote to the Kottayam District Election Officer that the Onam kit should not be distributed in the context of elections. The campaign that it is UDF that is stopping the kit distribution was intensified. Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan also sent a letter to the commission asking them not to block the distribution of kits.
Ultimate moves
The fronts who took out all their skills in the campaigns are going for the ultimate move to win the elections. The Chief Minister will be back on the 30th and 1st. All the ministers are visiting Puthuppally in rotation. Women leaders including KK Shailaja and PK Sreemathy are also on the scene targeting women voters.
The UDF campaign is led by opposition leader VD Satheesan, who announced that if Chandy Oommen's majority falls, he will take responsibility. UDF convener MM Hassan, PK Kunhalikutty, K Sudhakaran, K Muralidharan, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan and others are present in the constituency.
Lijin Lal, who submitted the nomination papers through a massive road show along with Union Minister V Muraleedharan, is meeting as many people as possible. The leadership, including state co-president Dr Radha Mohan Agarwal and president K Surendran, has been in Puthuppally for weeks.
