MALAPPURAM: The controversy over Tamir Jifri's death is still a potboiler in Kerala. Meanwhile, the Malappuram SP Sujith Das, earlier doubted for his involvement in the murder has wriggled out from the situation and will head towards Hyderabad for special training. The government has instructed SP to participate in the training that will begin on September 4 at the Hyderabad National Police Academy. Palakkad SP R. Anand will take charge of Malappuram from September 2.
Apart from Sujith Das, IPS officers Chaitra Teresa John, G. Poonkuzhali, and Kiran Narayanan will also take part in the training to be held at Hyderabad. The training is for one month. Sujith Das was under the investigative lens for his involvement in the custodial death of Tanur native Tamir Jifri. Jifri was taken into custody by the DANSAF team for possessing MDMA.
In the post-mortem report, there were 21 marks on Jifri’s body which was believed to be the result of police torture. According to the postmortem report, these bruises and injuries might be the prime reason for Jifri’s death.
A preliminary charge sheet has been filed in the crime branch court against four police officers of the DANSAF gang in the custody death of Tanur. The Human Rights Commission also intervened in the matter after Jifri’s family alleged about the police attempts to topple the case.
