THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 15-year-old who tried to kill his father over a quarrel, is in hospital after attempting suicide. The incident took place at Pothankodu, Thiruvananthapuram yesterday at 10:30 am. The son tried to kill his father, who was suffering from kidney disease, when the mother went to work.

The provocation was caused by his father scolding him and forbidding him to come home wearing someone else's shoes. According to the police, the father was lying inside the house after the fight with the son. At this time, the son was going in and out of the house. After a while, the son came inside the room where the father was sleeping with a friend. His friend covered his face with a cloth.

Both of them poured water mixed with chili powder on the father's face and then put a cloth in his mouth and hit him on the head with a hammer. In the meantime, the distraught father came out, closed the door and ran out screaming. Later, the son rescued his friend. On seeing the police coming, he tried to hang himself from the window wire. The police rescued the boy by breaking the door. Both father and son are undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital. It is reported that both have overcome the critical phase.
