NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has rejected the petition seeking cancellation of the Kerala State Film Awards. A bench comprising Justices M M Sundaresh and J B Pardiwala dismissed the petition. Lijeesh Mullezhath, the director of the film Akashashathinu Thaazhe, has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of the award.
The court asked what evidence was there to prove the allegations in the petition. Advocate K N Prabhu, who appeared for the petitioner, pointed out that the jury members themselves had made disclosures regarding the interference in the decision of the award. However, the Supreme Court pointed out that the petitioner was eliminated in the preliminary round of award determination itself. The bench also stated that there is no public interest in the matter. Senior advocate Sudhi Vasudevan advocates Aswathy M K and Shilpa Satheesh appeared on behalf of the film academy and Ranjith, who had filed a stay petition in the petition.
