THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George informed that strong inspections were conducted at all major check posts in Kerala during Onam. The close scrutiny at check posts was conducted under the leadership of the Food Safety Department. After strict inspection by the Food Safety Department at the check posts, it was found that the adulteration of milk from neighboring states has decreased. 711 vehicles were checked from 24th to 28th August as part of the inspection. 653 samples of milk and milk products were collected for testing. None of the tests detected the presence of chemicals. The Minister boasted this as a result of proper intervention made by the Food Safety Department.

The Food Safety Department conducted inspections at Kumily, Parassala, Aryankavu, Meenakshipuram, and Walayar check posts. The inspection was done in collaboration with the Dairy Development Department. As part of strict regulations, the checkpost for the last few days was always circled by officers. 646 surveillance samples were collected for testing.

Seven statutory samples were also collected. All surveillance samples were tested in mobile labs. Statutory samples were sent to the NABL lab for detailed testing. 48 samples of vegetables and 37 samples of other food items were collected for testing. Notices were given to 33 vehicles that arrived without proper documents.

Mobile lab units of the Food Safety Department and Dairy Development Department were all set up for testing. Along with this, samples of fruits, vegetables, fish, meat, and vegetable oils coming through the check posts were also collected for testing. The minister also gave a hint about continuing the inspections at regular intervals.
